An ancient fishing village located along the eastern coast of Liguria, less than 40 km from Genoa, Portofino overlooking the Tigullio gulf at the foot of the promontory of the same name, much of which is protected as Regional Park.
Portofino it's of Roman origin, Plinius wrote of it as "Portus Delphini" because the great number of Dolphins who were stationed in the gulf. The importance of Portofino grew in the Middle Ages thanks to its natural harbor, which was a safe harbor for ships. In the early twentieth century, the first to discover the beauty of this place were the English. |

Well-known resort of international tourism, the charming seaside village is dominated by the Fortress of San Giorgio, built by the Genoese in the sixteenth century. Very nice it's the short walk in the pine forest to the church of San Giorgio, which houses relics of the saint, and then comes to the Punta del Capo, past the Castle of San Giorgio.
Nearby, do not miss the excursion to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso, located isolated at the center of the promontory, and a 20-minute boat from Portofino, the Abbey is a Benedictine complex of medieval monuments, which houses the burial of Doria. |
