BUGGERRU, MEDIO CAMPIDANO, SARDINIA

From Cala Domestica continue for the town of Buggerru (1,100 inhabitants), a village, characterized by small houses placed like a fan in a rugged valley.

Overlooking the marina, in a building used by the end of the nineteenth century as a workshop and carpentry with lathes and milling machines in the original position, now is a museum on the history of Buggerru and its region, with archaeological finds, fossils, minerals, tools, documents, papers.

Remnants of the warehouses of the mine, Cala Domestica, Buggerru, Sardinia

TO SEE IN THE AREA:

Galleria Henry (Buggerru). This tunnel is the most important structure of the mine of Planu Sartu (1865), the gallery allows the transport of minerals by rail from mines to the laver. Lies at a height of 50 m, above the village of Buggerru, and crosses, for about one km the plateau of Planu Sartu. Its enormous size was determined by the use (1892) of a steam engine which, thanks to a futuristic rail network, quickly supplanted the slow and expensive transport with the mules. Its uniqueness is constituted by the numerous openings in the cliff and the sea, through small tunnels and trenches carved into the rock allow striking views of the coast cliffs and breathtaking views.
