FUNTANAMARE |

About 6 km from Gonnesa along the road from Carbonia to Iglesias, we find the deviation to the mining centers of Funtanamare, Nebida and Masua; from the junction after about 4 km you reach the beach of Funtanamare.
This long beach is a paradise for surfers, on the right side are the remains of the smelter of Funtanamare who treated the minerals extracted from the mine in Nebida which is 5 km away, the foundry was connected to a laundry for the treatment of minerals.
Continuing along the road that goes toward Nebida and Masua, you have a nice view over the whole beach of Funtanamare and on the opposite side the view extends to the Sugar Loaf of Masua. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of rocky coast of Sardinia.

TO SEE IN THE AREA:
Grotta di Santa Barbara, within the mine of San Giovanni (Gonnesa). The cave consists of a single large room, the walls of the cave are completely papered by tabular crystals of barite dark brown.
The site can be visited only by reservation. Admission: Individual € 12.00; children (6-12 years) € 6.00; groups (over 25) € 8.50; schools € 6.00. The ticket includes guide service to the site. Galleria Villamarina (Monteponi). The excavation of the tunnel Villamarina began in 1852, it meets the two most important wells (pozzi) of the Mine of Monteponi: Pozzo Vittorio Emanuele and Pozzo Sella.
