Sardinia, the second largest Italian island after Sicily, is located at the center of the western Mediterranean Sea. Rich of incomparable beauties immersed in an environment largely untouched, is home to a landscape with unique species of flora and fauna in the world and in which lie the historical vestiges of nuragico, Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Byzantine periods. Thanks to its isolation the island is a repository of ancient indigenous culture, with unique ethnic and linguistic characteristics. |

The coasts of Sardinia are fantastic, the beaches are obviously the main attraction of the island, it contains many tourist areas like Costa Smeralda, Maddalena Archipelago, the area of the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu, Costa Rei, Sinis, Asinara island, Costa Verde. Sardinia is also dotted by ‘Nuraghe’, typical conical towers whose origin remains enigmatic, there are about 7,000 nuraghes throughout the island.
Other interesting historic and prehistoric remains are the megalithic tombs called "Tombs of the Giants"; the "domus de janas" (houses of the witches), which are rock-cut tombs; the remains of Phoenician and Roman settlements, the magnificent Romanesque churches. The only Sardinian site inscribed in the world heritage list of UNESCO is Su Nuraxi of Barumini (1997). While other five places are on the tentative list: the Ponds of the Bay of Oristano and the Sinis Peninsula and the island of Mal di Ventre; the Archipelago of La Maddalena and Islands of Bocche di Bonifacio; the Island of Asinara; the Sulcis Iglesiente; and Pelagos: The Cetacean Sanctuary.
